Amy Adams in The Muppets

I went to go see The Muppets with my mom and my sister and my sister's boyfriend last week. I loved it, in the way that you have to love movies that remind you of being a little kid. :) One of the things the adult/sewist part of my mind noticed was how uber-cute Amy Adams's wardrobe was.

This dress has tulip sleeves, and the neckline and gathering are so cute!

I loved this outfit. The colors are spectacular, and I love the gathering and draping of the top. Also, check out the green jacket she was wearing over it:

Finally, the gorgeous dress she wore to the movie premier. I'm not generally a fan of colorblocking, but I like this look. And the pleats on the bodice are adorable. Did anyone else see the movie? What did you think?

Sewing vs. a French Film, -or- The Names of Love

I didn't sew today. I was planning on finishing my circle skirt, but I didn't even touch it. Instead, I went out with some old friends to see a movie downtown, which we followed with dessert (mango sorbet...yum...). It was a French film called The Names of Love. It was about an exuberant girl who takes "make love, not war" to a literal level and sleeps with right-wing conservatives in order to win them over to the left. She meets a scientist, and unlikely as it seems, they fall in love. I loved it. It made me laugh, and a few times it made me squirm in my seat...the kind of squirming you do when the character does or says something that they will probably regret later, and you know they're about to, but you can't do anything to stop it. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a film at one of the downtown theaters. It was probably Juno, which gives you an idea of how long ago it was. It was a nice way to spend the evening. And I can always finish my skirt tomorrow. I hope you all had a wonderful evening as well!

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - I Prefer Dresses!

I'm in Baltimore on a trip for work, and I decided that my down time should be spent catching up on some of the old movies I've been missing out on all these years. I just finished watching Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and I can't even describe how much I adored the film (and everything they wore in that movie).

Some of my favorites/things I wish I owned:

The collar and neckline on this suit are simply fabulous.

I love this dress. The silhouette, the sleeve length, and especially the accessories. The cuffs are perfect, and that belt is just perfect. And totally being replicated today. It's something that could easily be picked up.

This skirt is darling. I'm sure I've seen a pattern like it around somewhere. I may have to pick it up if I can find it again.

My very favorite outfit in the movie, however, was the purple suit Marilyn Monroe wears at the end. I love everything about it, from the quarter-sleeved bolero to the belt to the detail of the bodice.

I may have to watch another old movie just for the clothes before the night is out. Any recommendations?
